INSTRUMENTS TAUGHT
I provide private lessons on the violin, viola, violoncello, baroque violin, viola da gamba (all sizes), renaissance lute, baroque lute and theorbo to learners of all ages and abilities.
DEPTH OF EXPERIENCE
With over twenty years of teaching experience, I have taught students from early childhood through to tertiary and conservatory level, as well as adult beginners and advanced adult players. Children typically begin lessons around the age of five, and many continue through senior secondary studies, auditions, and tertiary preparation. I teach privately, online with international students, and have held teaching and leadership roles across numerous public and private schools in Sydney.
HIGH-LEVEL OUTCOMES AND PATHWAYS
Alongside nurturing beginners, I have extensive experience preparing advanced students and adults for AMEB and ABRSM exams, auditions, competitions, scholarships, and tertiary entry. My teaching prioritises technical security, stylistic understanding, and independent musicianship, supporting both professional aspirations and serious personal study.
QUALITY AND COMMITMENT
My studio is focused on quality rather than volume. Lessons are carefully prepared, pedagogically informed, and individually tailored, with clear expectations and accountability on both sides. Families and students who value thoughtful instruction, consistency, and long-term progress tend to thrive here. If you are seeking the lowest cost option above all else, another studio may be a better fit.
QUALIFICATIONS AND TEACHING APPROACH
I hold a Doctor of Musical Arts degree and trained in music and education in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Australia. I also have specialist training in curriculum design and online education. Lessons are carefully planned, age appropriate, and individually tailored, with measurable progress.
CLEAR COMMUNICATION AND PRACTICAL SUPPORT
Lessons are conducted in English, with additional support available in French, Japanese, Indonesian, and Malaysian if helpful. My studio uses online systems for scheduling, lesson reminders, and payments, making administration straightforward.
LOCATION AND LESSON OPTIONS
Lessons are offered in person at my studio in Saint Clair, NSW, or online. Casual lessons are available, with discounts for prepaid lesson blocks. Payment can be made by cash, credit card, or debit card. Free street parking is available.
